Millennials' Social Media and its Repurcussions !

One of the severe tragedies we face in the modern world among the millennials is that they don't read enough. Book reading is unique habit, that helps you to delve into the mind of author and with shared correspondence of reader and writer, you are slowly and gradually making a certain perspective bits by bits. By the end of the book, the author successfully plants all the ideas into the mind of reader. It is the habit of patient minds. Distracted mind cannot read well. The centuries old libraries worldwide are facing the crisis that people are not reading enough anymore, the digital media has replaced the books.

The massive content shared on digital space in last decade has been phenomenal. It is so massive that one can spend his or her lifetime to scroll down the content shared on digital phones and televisions. These screens did something strange to our imaginations. Instead of visualizations, we only became the recipients of the external stimulus and then the rise of TikTok and Instagram reels did further damage by minimizing the timing of the content, now it is difficult to watch one hour podcast on YouTube.. hence. the millennials became hungry for content but that content is absurd, raw and useless. The habit of scrolling reduces our active thinking and imagination. That is why worldwide, it is accepted fact that that phone screentime should be limited specially for kids because it invites ADHD disorders along with anxiety, panic and behavioral issues.

One can argue that we are surrounded by phone screens. One can argue that it can have disastrous impacts on health- on behavior, cognition and mobility. I am more concerned what it is doing to our learning taking place in classes. Social Media Celebrity culture has put our teenagers on the very strange road seeking validation in the infinite world among complete strangers. Social Media interactions do not give you sense of fulfillment rather it would create a void in you. You're seeking something in virtual world and yet it cannot be achieved in real world. That's a dilemma. It has created an impression in your mind that physical appearance is the only thing that matters. Materialism and material wealth is the symbol of status and respect. This itself is problematic way to looking at life.

And look at the political and social divide, the meme culture is disgraceful, and the memes become trends and fashion, the people seeking recognition through their memes. It is affecting the way we think, how we speak and how we view each other.

In unending algorithm, we all are irrelevant, and it is just a data. Forget about privacy, security and boundaries, you are now a brand who is televising your private life to the world at large, and all the anonymous audience are seeking delight from how you present yourself.

Ten years ago, the society was not like this. We are quite hesitant in showing disagreement with our elders. we were never sure if we were right because deep down the person before us carries a profound experience that I certainly don't have it, but now you see twitter, teenagers are bashing 60-year-old man, because he just a profile with few followers who do not have mass appeal as he could have it. Social media has no culture, it has no ethics, and it has no rules.

Our constant obsession with screens, scrolling and consume content to seek a perspective is based on the dopamine rush- unending rush that is never settled, in return, the social media celebrities' economy is associated with hours of consumption of our time.

The ancient human survived the disasters because of his will and effort. The hunter and gathers men survived in cave with natural disasters and dangerous animals because they had will and resilience to survive, the 21st century phones is destroying that will, resilience and effort. I am not mentioning what kind of content is polluting our minds leading to severe addiction.

We need legislation, political movement and sense of control ... we need anticipation of the situation that this is disaster for our generation, with the arrival of ChatGPT and AI, social media features will get further amusing, online games, interactions based on various contexts, the barrier of language is gone, the future man will confine himself to dark room and will never appreciate the sun light, he will never go to gym, he will not go to park and he would not want to take the responsibility as parent, he would not want to take responsibility of being a citizen that has something to offer for the state.

The security states like Pakistan will use social media to pollute the minds of young people with their distorted political beliefs and dogmas. The entire democratic model will fail because now elections can be engineered through social media apps - the organic political culture will rust, no ideas, no philosophy, no vibrant movement will take place.

In the end, we will produce nonsensical zombies, killing each other and violating law, emerging has heroes for millions because for the notions of right and wrong are already decided by algorithm, not by common human civic sense.
