Why writing about climate matters?

Climate affects your geography, your politics, your economics and let me say, it affects your psychology. This is manmade crisis; it is not a divine punishment. Climate advocacy is essential more than ever now. We need writers, singers, poets, movie makers and academicians to talk about this burning issue. This advocacy has to have a sentiment of empathy, of community work and of social service for the vulnerable community. As an educator, I feel it is important to teach about this crisis, to my students, the crisis, that will keep coming back, the crisis of our century. 

Floods 2022 affected us on personal level. We all were alarmed, how come the water just came into my dining room. I have spent my childhood in my village, where we used to play cricket in our ancestorial house. That memory is so vivid that it still brings delight and happiness to me, but after the floods, my that home just collapsed into pieces. I saw the picture of the home and I broke down. Home is just not physical thing; it is more than that. It has got memories, emotions, childhood, and all your precious life. 

It is hard to imagine that these floods will haunt us again, and we are not yet prepared. We literally had to reconsider everything, our politics, our economics, literally our whole system needs to be redesigned. You need a new mindset and come up with better town planning, childcare, mothercare, economic schemes, you have to change your way to view health crisis, and we need to have new understanding about resilience as nation and about the sustainable development. 

Sindh, Baluchistan and KPK were hit hard by the floods. As a social scientist and writer, I reviewed politics by the incorporating the element of climate into this, I review my understanding about economics by incorporating the element of climate into that, and as human being, philosophically, what it truly means to have simple and organic life, with minimalism and without being all over the place. I reconsider what it means to be human. Human is someone who doesn't harm nature, who doesn't inflict pain to nature and ecology, and someone who can reconcile with ecology without changing it. This capitalism, this industrialization, urbanization was not even needed, it is just a greed, economy that makes you happy is good economy, economy that exhausts your and reduces your potential as mechanical being is not good for your system and society.
